Welcome to the Emerald Society
This is the homepage of the United Phoenix Firefighters Emerald Society, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.
Our organization was formed in 1987, and includes all of the community fire departments within the Phoenix mutual aid system.
Our organization is made up of individual firefighters, and their families, who share interests in Irish heritage and culture. We enhance our professional and personal lives by providing community service, charity, and professional growth. We now have a large membership of firefighters as well as those that strive to be firefighters coming together to better the Phoenix community.
The Emerald Society participates in many community programs and fundraisers such as The Firefighters Ball, a Horseshoe Tournament, The Build-A-Fence program, Adopt A Street, and Fill-the-Boot for the MDA to name a few. Funds are raised for a number of selected charities, as well as providing support to our brothers and sisters in the firefighting profession.
The Emerald Society also has a strong Mentorship Program where many current firefighters help others through the process of becoming a member of the Phoenix Fire Department, always growing, strengthening and diversifying North America’s finest fire department.

Dear Friends of the United Phoenix Fire Fighters Emerald Society (PFDES),
It is time again to mark your calendar for this year’s 10th Annual Emerald Society “John Shadron” Memorial Horseshoe Tournament, to be held December 10th 2011. You can register for that event here.
Also note! We are pleased to announce a full out Car and Bike Show same time and place.
Once again the Fraternal Order of Eagles will be helping the Emerald Society host this event at 3600 West Rose Garden Lane, Glendale location. The start time is 9:00 AM, this Saturday, December 10th. You can download a flier with more information here. This is a five acre property that is to be a National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) sanctioned location, utilizing 27 official horseshoe pits and a great outdoor location for the Car and Bike Show.
We would like to thank everyone who attended last year’s tournament. We raised $6,700.00 for PFDES Charities. Proceeds were raised from sponsorships, registration, food and beverage sales, raffle prizes, silent auction items and donations.
PFDES Charities that benefited last year were the Arizona Burn Camp, The Child Crisis Center and the Emerald Society’s Scholarship Program. Great Job!
If you have supported the tournament in the past, we thank you. If you are new to the event, please support us in any way you can. We are very excited this year knowing that we are going to add many new friends with the addition of the Car and Bike Show. Trophies for Best in Show for separate categories will be awarded along with t-shirts for all entries.
We now invite you to sign-up to throw horseshoes or show your ride, to help by sponsoring one of the events or make a donation. We appreciate you taking the time to support us today in the best way you can. We are updating our website now please join us there soon at www.phxfireemeraldsociety.org or on Facebook, for more details and information.
We are a 501-c-3 nonprofit corporation and all the proceeds we receive are tax deductible. Some of our most notable contributors have been the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, Tazer International, Scottsdale Gun Club, Hensley and Sons, Rosie McCafferys and Microsoft.
